    Some Mystics, unsatisfied with their raw, chaotic power, seek to temper and restrain their power through discipline, meditation, and martial arts. Though they are limited in how much animus they can shape, the effects they can produce are far more impressive.

    Weapons and Armor Proficiency
    A zen mystic can cast zen mystic spells while wearing light armor or medium armor without incurring the normal arcane spell failure chance. This does not affect the arcane spell failure chance for arcane spells received from other classes. Like other arcane spellcasters, a zen mystic wearing heavy armor or wielding a shield incurs a chance of arcane spell failure if the spell in question has somatic components.

    This is in addition to the Mystic’s normal proficiencies.

    Spellcasting
    At 4th level, a Zen Mystic gains the ability to cast a small number of spells. A Zen Mystic chooses her spells from the Bloodrager spell list. At 4th level, a Zen Mystic knows two 1st-level spells of her choice. To learn or cast a spell, a [ARCHETYPE ] must have a Wisdom score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. He can cast spells he knows without preparing them ahead of time. The saving throw DC against a Zen Mystic’s spell is 10 + the spell level + the Zen Mystic’s Wisdom modifier.

    Like other spellcasters, a Zen Mystic can cast only a certain number of spells of each level per day. His base daily spell allotment is given on Table: Zen Mystic. In addition, he receives bonus spells per day if he has a high Wisdom score. The Zen Mystic does not need to prepare these spells in advance; he can cast any spell he knows at any time, assuming he hasn’t yet used up his allotment of spells per day for the spell’s level.

    In addition to expending a spell slot, a Zen Mystic must expend Animus equal to the level of the spell to be cast, including metamagic adjustments.

    The Zen Mystic’s selection of spells is limited. At 4th level, a Zen Mystic knows two 1st-level spells of his choice. A Zen Mystic gains more spells as he increases in level, as indicated on Table: Zen Mystic Spells Known. Unlike spells per day, the number of spells a Zen Mystic knows is not affected by his Wisdom score.

    This replaces Glyphs.

    Bonus Feat: A Zen Mystic may also choose from Metamagic feats whenever she gains a Bonus Feat.

    Animus Metamagic (Su): When casting a Zen Mystic spell, you can apply a single metamagic feat you possess to that spell by spending animus equal to twice the level increase of that feat. Unlike applying a metamagic feat normally, this does not increase the spell’s casting time or the spell slot it consumes.

    Spellweaving (Su): At 20th level, your weaving of magic and maneuvers has made them virtually indistinguishable. You may cast a spell with a casting time of a standard action as part of the initiation of a Strike.

    This ability replaces Runic Singularity.

    Continuing the discussion from the old DSP forums, this class was intended as a counterpart to the Awakened Champion, which gains Manifesting and Initiating but gains no extra actions with which to manifest. Shouldn’t this class be just as valid – especially with a way to Quicken spells provided by the class features?
